Workplace Safety and Health Division may issue an Improvement Order to your company for a chemical and biological substances or a workplace exposure assessment. One common industrial activity that often generates an Improvement Order is welding and exposure to welding fumes. Exposure to high levels of welding fumes have been associated with cancer, lung effects, central nervous system effects, and reproductive effects in men.

Doug Wylie performed a 2 year study on welding exposures in Manitoba under a research grant funded by the WCB. The focus of the study was not only the measure worker exposure but to provide cost-effective controls to help companies control welding fumes in their workplaces.
